The Ground Hog.Max is an A.T.V. disk plow that has revolutionized the way food plots and gardens are plowed and planted with the use of an ATV instead of expensive and large tractors! The uses of this plow is amazing in that it can be easily transported and deployed in the field without the need for special hauling and storage.

The GroundHog Max ATV/UTV Disc Plow makes preparing food plots a fun jo with only one person needed to operate it. If you do remote food plots a couple of times a year, this one is for you!

The Ground Hog Max mounts between the rear wheels and under the ATV/UTV’s rear-end. It works by Utilizing the weight of the vehicle (800 to 1200 lbs.) and driver’s (200 lbs). No need to add extra weight. Plow in oblong circles, figure 8’s or straight.
When in transport mode with the disks in the up position it allows you to drive it up on your truck, take it to your property, drive it off the truck, take the plow to the most remote area of your property where tractors cannot go (at the speed of an ATV)and by yourself!

This versatile disc plow is “user-friendly”, designed with lower cost and ease of use in mind, at an economical price.

The Good & the Bad

The Good:

  1. It plows twice as fast (3-7 mph) and cuts better than the typical pull-behind plow.
  2. Simple Hook Up and removal
  3. User Friendly design for transport and use
  4. You can access more hard to get to areas than a tractor with implements and even an old school tow behind model plows

The Bad:

  1. Time to plow the area is obviously more than a tractor with implements. But after all we aren’t comparing the two. This is a review of the Ground Hag Max. For those who didn’t have a tractor and implements before the Ground Hog Max is a major league improvement over the old tow behind plows.

Who is the Ground Hog Max For?

The Ground Hog Max is designed for the deer hunter who wants a larger food plot without the use of hand tools, but doesn’t own or have access to a tractor, plows, trailer and truck for towing. It simply slides into an adjustable hitch that’s mounted to your ATV/ UTV. The Ground Hog Max also gives the option of reaching more remote, hard to get to areas that aren’t accessible with a tractor.

For years hunters have attempted to plow food plots with small, light weight pull behind design plows that have trouble breaking up hard soil and put excessive stress on the ATV/UTV. The Ground Hog Max is a plow designed to be attached to brackets mounted directly to the ATV/ UTV. The weight of the ATV/UTV and rider help push the plows into the soil and solve the problems of not having enough weight as well as excessive stress on the ATV/UTV ,

In addition to food plots the plow is used for landscaping, preparing and maintaining firebreaks and weed control, grooming horse arenas, dirt tracks, beaches on lakes, trails. If you need to till the ground the plow will do it. In many cases it can be used to replace a tractor especially for smaller jobs

The Ground Hog Max is quickly becoming the go to option for home owner sized gardens as well, and does a great job in hard ground in the 5 inch depth range.

My final opinion of the Ground Hog Max ATV/ UTV disk plow

At a very reasonable price point ($355.95)the Ground Hog Max has addressed the need for hunters and gardeners that want a dependable plow for smaller to midsize food plots and gardens. Previous ATV/UTV pull behind models were less than effective in harder soils and with a larger footprint and heavier weight presented issues with storage options. The Ground Hog Max is a smaller yet more robust option that easily stores in less than half the space needed for traditional ATV/ UTV plows.. Or you have the option of leaving it hooked up to the ATV/ UTV when in storage.

The Ground Hog Max has a warranty period of 90 days from date of purchase. And spare parts are available .

When using the Ground Hog Max you can plow 5-8 mph, according to how your food plot is laid out. Remember also that you can use reverse in those tight spots. What makes the GroundHog work so well is down pressure, it uses the weight of the ATV, 700-800 lbs. plus the weight of the rider 200-300lbs. This equals approximately 1,000 lbs. of down pressure on much less steel than a traditional style ATV disk.

A member of our hunting club purchased the first Ground Hog Max I saw and I was impressed with it. It’s a very rugged, tough and well built unit.

If you are looking for a well built, alternative to an ATV/UTV tow behind disk plow, the Ground Hog Max is right down your alley!

If you are ready for an alternative that rests between back breaking manual work and the expense of a tractor, plows, trailer, and towing vehicle

  1. Thanks for this interesting review of the ground hog max atv, it sure is something else. I am wondering how you have to maintain these machines? Can you do it yourself as spare parts are available or do you need to go to a specialised service station? The other thing is the warranty clause of only 90 days, this seems very short. If this is correct, what does it tell you about the quality of this atv?

    1. Thanks for your comment Jerry ! Fair questions .

Like most implements the usage and life of a plow depends greatly on your care for the equipment.

In the life of a plow there will be rocks and roots that can cause damage to your disks, bearings etc. That is the reason for a great supply of repair parts. If this plow is used with care and not overly abused it will give great service for a long time. In fact mine has some dings in the disks from rocks.

The 90 day warranty is pretty much industry standard for this type of implement .

Thanks again for your comment! If you have further questions feel free to reach out to me anD I will get your answers ASAP!

      Have a great day!

  2. Wow, not in a million years would I have thought something like this is out there. I have a 660cc four-stroke Yamaha Raptor, it’s obviously not a “work” four wheeler, but do you think it could handle the amount of torque needed to pull an ATV plow like this, or do you need a utility ATV specifically?

    1. Thanks for your post!

No you don’t need a specific ATV or type of ATV. My buddy marcus has his on a golf cart!

  3. The plow rate is actually more than I accepted. Normally it is between 2 and 4. I also like that it is user friendly since I am just a newbie when it comes to ATV. I wonder how is the cost efficiency of it. Is it any good? What do you think about it?

    1. I absolutely love mine !

I am 6’5″ and 270lbs and I have a 250cc ATV so I can easily get through the woods.

My 250 does an awesome job with it! The plow is tough as nails. The metal is thick and it’s very well constructed.

      Thanks for your comment Furkan!

  4. Nice website, I love your background image.

I also like your layout it goes very well with your content. Your content is nice and well written.

It is very hard for me to find anything that needs improvement on your site you are doing a great job keep up the good work!

  5. The Ground Hog Max has a great design. I like the fact it uses the weight of the vehicle and the rider to help sink the blades deep into the ground.
The speed at which the plow was working in the video seems a little quick to me. How durable is the Ground Hog Max? Would hitting a large rock or root at 8mph damage it?
Other than that the Ground Hog Max looks to be a great time-saving product.

    1. Thanks for your comment Tony?

As with any plow (even the super high end farm plows ) when the metal cutting disk hits rocks ,it can ding and chip them . The Ground Hog Max is a very tough unit. And in its price range pretty much can’t be touched.

Thanks,if you have any further questions please leave them and I’ll get back ASAP!

  6. Hello Mike69.
To be quite honest with you I don´t know anything about the industry of tractors of agriculture; but on reading and looking at your post on the review of The GroundHog Max ATV/UTV Disc Plow it gives me the impression that I can definitely benefit from your insights and the thorough description of this useful gadget. Liked the themes and images and the way you lay out some of the characteristics specially when mentioned the good and the bad regarding your expert opinion on this Disc Plow. Finally it seems to me that you did your homework and research very well on this product.Keep the pedal to the metal my friend. Sincerely Xavier.T

  7. This is the first I have seen this type of plough, certainly is very useful especially for those with large gardens or small holdings, the cost is brilliant when you think how much a tractor costs, like the way it can move in and out of rough terrain , do you know if this is available in the UK?
